Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

*They’re probably not considered spoilers but I’m gonna warn you anyway

Story: 5 Manages to make a superhero movie into a realistic political thriller and brings a lot more depth to Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff and S.H.I.E.L.D
Characters: 4 Perfectly embodies how Steve Rogers’ old-fashioned values clash with the values of today, Romanoff also becomes a much more detailed and important character; however the Winter Soldier seems a bit bland and irrelevant as the main antagonist
Acting: 5 Chris Evans IS Steve Rogers, and the way he plays him is far from campy and completely authentic; Scarlett Johansson successfully displays Widow’s inner emotions and her respect for Rogers
Cinematography: 5 The action scenes are exciting and very well executed as expected; calmer scenes are also filmed in a close and intimate way
Animation/special effects: 4 Apart from some less realistic scenes with Captain America jumping on planes and helicarriers, the absence of alien technology in this film means that the special effects in action scenes are believable and thrilling
Music: 4 Although not as memorable as the music in The Avengers, Captain America’s theme perfectly reflects his character and is complimented with suspenseful music reminiscent of old political thrillers
Creativity: 4 It’s hard to be creative with a story that has to make sense towards the bigger picture of the MCU, but this film still manages to be original regarding the corruption of S.H.I.E.L.D
Entertainment: 5 Super suspenseful and exciting without an over reliance on action scenes and special effects

TOTAL: 36/40 = 90%

Amazing. This film just took Guardians of the Galaxy’s place as my favourite Marvel film ever.

Critics reviews: 7.8/10 (IMDB), 89% (Rotten Tomatoes), 70% (Metacritic)
